Care and Maintenance
With a little regular maintenance you can keep your Brown Jordan furniture looking beautiful for a lifetime. Then pass it on to your heirs.
Regular Maintenance
Increase the longevity and maintain the beauty of your Brown Jordan outdoor furniture with this simple care regimen. Dust furniture lightly to maintain the finish luster. Use a soft bristle brush and a solution of mild detergent and water to clean pieces thoroughly. Rinse with clear water, and dry. For maximum protection against harmful ultraviolet exposure and salt air apply a fine, clear automobile wax to all metal frames. For best protection, we recommend performing this regimen 2 or 3 times per year in low pollution areas and more frequently in high pollution areas, though you can clean our durable materials as often as you like without harming the fabrics. Note: Some suntan and sunblock products may be harmful to resin, Suncloth® cushions, Versatex® mesh, and vinyl lace and strap. Do not allow such products to encounter any seating surfaces to avoid deep penetrating stains. Such stains are not covered under warranty.
Think of our impeccably made furniture covers as protective coats that extend the life and looks of your dining or seating pieces, especially when these pieces are exposed to temperature extremes or wet and/or salty air over long periods of time. In these climates we recommend stowing furniture indoors during the coldest months.
How to clean and care for
NATURAL TEAK
Teak is a natural wood with a very high density and oil content which means it will endure for decades outdoors. Brown Jordan offers two types of beautiful teak finishes: Natural Teak and Driftwood Teak. Our Natural Teak is manufactured without added sealers or finishes. By buffing the wood during fabrication, the natural oils come to the surface and showcase the inherent beauty of the wood grain and color. Natural Teak will weather to a silvery gray patina over time. This is normal and does not affect the performance of the furniture. If desired, you can maintain or restore the teak to its original color with cleaners and sealers such as the Golden Care line of Teak Cleaner and Teak Sealer. In humid or wet climates, or after rains, the wood may naturally expand and contract, causing the grain to rise and hairline cracks to appear. This is to be expected with exposure to the elements and will stabilize after the initial weathering occurs. New Natural Teak furniture may have spots of oil that look like water marks on the surface. Wash gently to remove the spots from the wood. The oil may stain fabric cushions where they rest against the furniture. This is normal and will not harm the fabric. To remove these stains, use a soft brush and Simple Green® or OxiClean™ cleaners.
TEAK DRIFTWOOD FINISH
Achieving our beautiful driftwood finish is a multi-step pigmented stain process. As part of the application process, the teak wood grain is raised using mechanical abrasion. This, combined with the wood expanding and contracting with changing temperature and moisture levels, may result in hairline cracks appearing over time in the finish, the wood, and the furniture joints. Please note that these small cracks do not affect the integrity or longevity of the furniture. If the product finish is scratched or gouged, contact Customer Service for the touch-up kit. If left exposed outdoors, the Driftwood finish will weather and fade over time. As this happens, the teak below the stain is exposed and will begin to weather to the same silver-gray color as natural teak. The time for this transition depends on the environment and exposure. Left uncovered, the finish can start to wear within one season. Full patina will usually be achieved in 3 years. Once the finish begins to weather, the original color can be maintained by performing the following: 1.Use a Hose to spray the furniture (warning; do not use a power washer). 2. Using a mild scrubbing pad, brush, or sponge; clean the furniture using Golden Care® Hardwood & Teak Cleaner. Scrub the surface just enough to remove any loose finish particles and dirt. 3. Allow the surface to dry for 24 hours, then apply Golden Care® Instant Grey Teak Protector to the surface using a soft cloth. Allow to air dry for 24 hours. Repeat application as needed to achieve uniform color.
FABRIC
Our luxurious indoor/outdoor fabrics are extra resilient and super easy to care for, just the way we designed them. Simply wash outdoor cushions with a solution of mild detergent and water and thoroughly rinse with clear water. Stand the cushions on end and air dry completely. Remove light stains using a soft brush and mild detergent. Remove mildew and heavy stains with a quality commercial outdoor furniture cleaner and protectant. Note: Do not dry clean or use a washing machine or dryer. Do not steam or use water at temperatures above 100°F when washing. Caution: Do not allow commercial cleaning products to come in contact with furniture cushions as this will cause discoloration. Do not use bleach on printed acrylic fabrics. Do not use solvent-type materials on woven vinyl, woven blend, or ultra-woven blend fabrics as they will damage the yarns. Do not use chlorine-based cleaners.
VINYL STRAP
Apply a quality vinyl protectant to guard against the effects of air pollution, salt air build-up, and mildew. To remove difficult stains use rubbing alcohol applied with a soft cloth.
WOVEN FURNISHINGS
Woven furnishings are made of durable and weatherproof extruded polyethylene resinweave. Light stains and soils may be removed with a solution of mild detergent and water. Rinse with clear water and drY thoroughly. Mildew and heavy stains can be removed with a quality commercial outdoor furniture cleaner and protectant. Woven furnishings may not be suitable for intensely hot climates.
VERSATEX (R) MESH
Remove light stains with a solution of mild detergent and water, then rinse with clear water and dry thoroughly. Mildew and heavy stains can be removed with a quality commercial outdoor furniture cleaner and protectant.
NATURAL STONE AND MARBLE TOPS
We design our stone and marble tabletops with outdoor use in residential settings in mind. If the tabletop is stained with products such as wine, soda, coffee, or other colorants of organic origin, clean these spills immediately with a mild detergent then rinse with water. In extreme cold climates, we recommend that tabletops be stored in a dry indoor area or be covered with suitable outdoor furniture cover. Be sure to allow space between the tabletop and the cover so that moisture does not collect on the table; this will promote airflow and allow moisture to escape. For additional care and cleaning instructions, please contact Brown Jordan Customer Service.
GLASS-FIBER REINFORCED VECTOR TOPS
Avoid build-up of grease and stains by washing regularly with a non-abrasive sponge or soft bristle brush with a cleaning solution of 1/4 cup (2 oz.) mild biodegradable liquid soap in a gallon of lukewarm water (1000 F / 380 C). To release embedded dirt, use a vinegar and water solution (equal parts each). Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
ROPE, SUNCLOTH LACE AND STRAP
For general or light cleaning, begin by vacuuming or brushing dirt off the rope, strap, or lace. Apply a solution of mild detergent and warm water and allow it to soak in. Gently clean with a sponge or soft bristle brush, then rinse thoroughly with clear water and allow the material to air dry. For heavy stains or spot cleaning, apply a solution of mild detergent and warm water. Do not use stain removers. Blot the stained area with a sponge or soft cloth working inwards from the outside of the stain. Do not rub. Once the spot is removed rinse the area to remove any soap residue. Blot any excess moisture with a dry sponge or towel. Allow the material to air dry. For stubborn or other specific stains, please contact Brown Jordan Customer Service Department.
DEKTON AND CERAMIC TOPS
Dekton and ceramic tabletops may be cleaned using a damp soft cloth or sponge with a mild, biodegradable detergent. If the tabletop is stained with soda or juice, a mild solution of no more than 1:3 bleach to water or hydrogen peroxide may be used. Whenever cleaning, always rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry completely as a final step. For stubborn or other specific stains, please contact Brown Jordan Customer Service Department.
FIRE TABLE MAINTENANCE
The Fire Table should be inspected and cleaned before initial use at least annually by a qualified field service person. Any component that is found faulty must be replaced with an approved component. Any tampering or modifying with the Fire Table is dangerous and voids all warranties. During winter months in cold climates and various seasons, operation the Fire Table may be affected by weather conditions. It is recommended to use a ventilated cover over top of your Fire Table to protect it from humid/rainy weather conditions when not in use. Heavy rains/downpours could affect the Fire Table operation if not covered; if this occurs ensure you allow the Fire Table time to dry out before attempting to operate. NOTE: If a combustible type cover is used over the Fire Table when not in use be sure to remove it before operation to prevent a severe safety hazard. Carbon (soot) may build up on the surface of glass during normal use. To clean, remove glass and wash with water, dry and replace. Over time stainless steel parts discolor when heated, usually a golden or brown hue. This discoloration is normal and does not affect the performance of the appliance.
